I remember reading where someone had posted a blog about single gender classrooms....I ran across this and thought it was interesting.

A blog by and for students in the Teaching in a Democracy course at Winthrop University. This course focuses on the often conflicting philosophical, social, and historical purposes of American education.

I recall reading about a study that indicated that boys tend to dominate classroom discussion, including answering more questions than girls in a classroom setting. The research suggested that girls would participate more if they were in single sex classes. I would agree with this assumption. I attended an all girls parochial high school. I don't know if I would have participated any less in classroom discussions if I had attended a co-ed school, but I can say that I always felt comfortable, confident and supported in the single-sex classroom.
