Ripped from the Headlines!

Last night's presentation mentioned a pending court case in Florida about a school prohibiting a Gay-Straight alliance student group. The judge just ruled on the case yesterday.

The times are changing and this is just another thing that schools need to get used to. My sister is in the process of starting one at FMHS, and has full support from the administration. If people are going to protest this type of club, how is that any different from christian based clubs such as Fellowship of Christian Athletes. What about the whole idea of religion in school? People are going to have to start picking their battles a little better. Students have all the right in the world to want to start a club for gay students. They're not trying to broadcast it, but they do need a place to go and feel they can be who they are.

I think Gay-Strait alliance groups are perfect for high schools. Teenagers have it difficult enough trying to figure out their identity and where they fit in the world without being chastised for who they are. What is wonderful about such groups is that they provide a supportive environment that may not be found elsewhere - it also allows for friends and family members to show support, and have their own questions and concerns answered.
