Thank you for posting this clip, I really enjoyed seeing first hand what we had discussed in Dewey and the chapter "The Moral Training Given by the School Community." We had discussed how Dewey explained on page 248 where he states "the only way to prepare for social life is to engage in social life."

These students represented first hand Dewey in action, working in the school store to learn business experiences, reading to the class much like a teacher would, and participating like an adult would in the workings of the "real world."

What organization put this video out? It was obviously promoting progressive education and Dewey's beliefs. It was nice to have a short clip in their about how Dewey himself felt about the issues. Dewey was all about integration for the students to be integrated into the "real world" and to experience adult-like society. In order for a child to be truley educated, Dewey believed he or she must take interest in community welfare through social order and progress, then taking it a step further and executing these principles into everyday life. I believe Dewey thought the the only way for children to be "really" educated on the workings of the world was to be a part of the everyday typical conditions of social life, that is why this video clip was a prime example of ways in which that took place.

I also loved the stache he was rocking!
