It seems that the author of this critque agrees with the observations (in most cases) that Bloom makes, but disagrees with his solutions to the problems. Opposing values are the real obstacles here. Bloom states that, "In a chaotic world, reason is unreasonable because self-contradiction is inevitable" (209). Both point of views are reasonable in their own morality.

Wow! What a great find! I thought this was a fantastic breakdown of Bloom's book! I have an ongoing argument with an older friend of mine, who never graduated from college. She says she always felt less intelligent because she did not have a degree. I actually think she is one of the most intelligent people I know. I tell her that people with college degrees usually only know a lot about their own subject, myself included. She however, knows a great deal about many things, because she always wanted to be able to hold intelligent conversations with her husband's (he was an engineer) friends. She's more educated than most educated people I know! I believe this is kind of what Bloom was getting at in his book, the self-motivated search for higher knowledge.

Very nice link, Mark.

The commentary there is a good example of an extended "reading analysis".
